Adjunct professor Anthony Pesare publishes new book on the mob

Friday, December 02, 2011

NEWPORT, R.I. – Middletown Police Chief Anthony Pesare, an adjunct faculty member in Salve Regina University’s administration of justice department, has published a new book that leads readers on a provocative journey into the heart of the mob’s tentacles and its resulting complications.

Relying on first-hand experience as an organized crime investigator with the Rhode Island State Police, Pesare’s “They Always Win: Inspired by a True Story” is now available on Amazon.com.

The book’s main character is Gino Peterson, who after 10 years as a Rhode Island Trooper is promoted to the Intelligence Unit, an elite group of state police detectives with one purpose: battling the mob.

Growing up in Providence’s Federal Hill and surrounded by wise guys, Gino was once tempted by the lifestyle but his hard-working father was killed in a mysterious car accident. That moment sealed his fate and he dedicated his life fighting to bring them all to justice.

Inspired by the real-life investigation of Patriarca crime family member Frank “Bobo” Marrapese, Pesare’s narrative walks a thought-provoking line between cop and criminal.

Pesare assumed command of the Middletown Police Department in 2004. He previously served as dean of the School of Justice Studies at Roger Williams University and was a member of the Rhode Island State Police, where his law enforcement career spanned 24 years.

He began his career as a uniform trooper before joining the Intelligence Unit where he investigated organized crime and rose through the ranks of the agency.

Pesare has lectured at the Rhode Island State Police Training Academy, the Rhode Island Bar Association, and the Rhode Island Chapter of Certified Fraud Examiners. In 2007 he received the Gerhard O.W. Mueller Innovator Award from the Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences.

He received his bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from Roger Williams University, his master of public administration from the University of Rhode Island, and his juris doctor from the New England School of Law in Boston.
