NEWPORT, R.I. – Athletic coaches are here too. But also drawing attention on campus this week are historic coaches drawn by highly-trained teams of horses and driven by appropriately clad “whips” that are parading their way along Ochre Point Avenue as part of “A Weekend of Coaching” hosted by the Preservation Society of Newport County Aug. 16-19.
About a dozen coaching teams from around the country are in Newport to participate in the event, which is open to public viewing along several parade routes throughout the week.
Scores of specators gathered along Salve Regina University's historic Ochre Point Avenue properties to watch the parade, take snapshots and record videos.
