NEWPORT, R.I. – Extensions Dance Company, Salve Regina University’s select group of dancers, will perform in originally choreographed pieces when they take the stage for their 2013 Dance Concert at the Casino Theatre on March 21-23.
Open to the public, performances will be held on Thursday, March 21 at 8 p.m., Friday, March 22 at 8 p.m., and for two shows on Saturday, March 23 at 3 and 8 p.m. The Casino Theatre is located at 9 Freebody St.
General admission tickets will be available at the door, or can be reserved in advance by contacting the box office at 401-341-2250 or by visiting tinyurl.com/salvecasino. Tickets are $5 for everyone for Thursday’s performance, while weekend performances are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, students and military, and $5 for Salve Regina students, faculty and staff.
Performances at the concert will include choreography by faculty members Lindsay Guarino and Ali Kenner Brodsky, and students Cayley Christoforou, Danielle Gionet, Alli Montecillo, and Courtney Randall.
The work of four guest artists will also be featured. Tommy Neblett, artistic director of the dance program at Boston Conservatory, set a work titled “Aloha” on an all-female cast. The piece captures a mixture of fierce volcanic energy and quirky femininity.
Teal Darkenwald, professor of dance at East Carolina University, set a dramatic piece titled “Inferno.“ This work overwhelms the audience with color and intensity, highlighting a jazz dance aesthetic.
Other guest pieces include “No, No...Really” by Matt Pardo of Lucinda Child's Dance Company, and “Orbit” by Christine Sandorfi, who dances locally with Island Moving Company.
