NEWPORT, R.I. – Extensions Dance Company, Salve Regina University’s select group of dancers, will be presenting their annual spring concert with performances Feb. 27-March 1 at the Casino Theatre, 9 Freebody St.
Open to the public, performances will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 with an additional matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m. General admission tickets will be available at the door, or can be reserved in advance by contacting the box office at 401-341-2250 or by visiting tinyurl.com/salvecasino.
The program will include a range of choreography from faculty, students and renowned guest choreographers. Boston-based artist Nailah Randall-Bellinger has created an original work for the company called “Intersections.”
The ensemble piece is a reflection on how peoples’ paths intersect all day, every day, yet society has conditioned us so we are often isolated and unable to form honest connections. Randall-Bellinger’s athletic movement vocabulary offers a fast paced, kinetic experience.
Amy VanKirk, assistant professor of dance from Radford University in Virginia, set a Latin jazz dance on an all-female ensemble. Fuerza!Fuego is a sensual and dynamic piece that exudes fire and passion. Artistic Director Lindsay Guarino’s new work, Supplient/1214, reflects on the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The emotionally charged piece expresses every parent’s deepest fear through a contemporary aesthetic. Additional choreography will range from ballet to hip-hop with choreography from students Cayley Christoforou, ’15, Alli Montecillo, ’14, Casey Sheehan, ’14, Alysia Sjoberg, ’16 and Kayla Tolman, ‘15, faculty member Ali Brodsky, and guests Mark Harootian and Andrea Dawn Shelley.
