Each year, the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life gives students the opportunity to make a difference by volunteering with the Alternative Spring Break program.
Students from Salve Regina have a long history of service and work for social justice, both locally and across the globe. The social justice teachings of the church compel us to put our faith into action. Students who are active with the Mercy Center engage in a variety of service activities ranging from weekly commitments to single day efforts. Students can visit the elderly at St. Clare Nursing Home, staff a booth for Special Olympics, clean up the beaches for Earth Day, work with children at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, or rake, mulch and paint for Rebuilding Together. The needs are many so there is never a lack of ways to make a difference.
The Mercy Center for Spiritual Life, in co-sponsorship with the Feinstein Office for Community Service, offers students a chance to aid in the recovery efforts in New Orleans. Students spend a week in the Fourth and Ninth Wards working side-by-side with the residents to clean and rebuild this hard hit area. In addition, students have the opportunity to learn about the history, spiritual life and culture of the area. It is a week of hard labor and unforgettable memories.
