Research interests include environmental ethics, bioethics, Catholic social thought, and religious liberty. Cowdin has published a number of articles in various journals, such as Christian Bioethics, New Iheology Review, and the Heythrop Journal. He has also contributed to two books concerning Christianity and the environment, Preserving the Creation (Georgetown, 1994) and Christianity and Ecology (Harvard, 2000).
