Depending where you go to high school, there is someone in our office who personally manages your admissions process.
Every fall, approximately 10% of our new incoming students have transferred from another college or university. For some students, transferring has always been a part of their educational plan; for others, they are beginning a new college search for a variety of reasons. There are about as many reasons for transferring as there are transfer students! Whatever your circumstances are, we will do our best to make your transition as smooth as possible, and we will always treat you like an individual.
An individual is considered a transfer student if they have enrolled in any college or university courses after graduating from high school or earning a GED. Salve Regina University admits transfer students in both the spring and fall semesters. As a general rule, the more college coursework you take, the less we will rely on your high school record to make an admission decision. The average college GPA of transfer students offered admission to Salve Regina University is a 3.0.
You must submit:
*SAT scores not required if you have earned at least 30 college credits.
After your application and all the supporting documents are received, we will usually respond to you within 4-6 weeks. If you are currently enrolled in courses, we may ask for a Mid-Semester Grade Report before we make an admissions decision. You may download the Mid Semester Grade Report Form here.
If you have previously applied to Salve Regina University within the past 3 years, you may reapply by submitting the Request for Reactivation of Application.
In addition to the Request for Reactivation of Application Form, you must submit all updated, official transcripts (high school and college/university) and a Dean of Students Certification Form from each college/university attended.
If you had applied for admission during your senior year of high school, official final high school transcripts and updated SAT/ACT scores (if applicable) must be sent. Official transcripts should be sent at the close of each semester.
Students wishing to reactivate their application who were not previously admitted to Salve Regina University must also submit one letter of recommendation from a recent college instructor.

Transfer students who have been accepted to Salve Regina will receive an unofficial transfer credit evaluation within approximately 3 weeks of their admission decision. Transfer credit is typically awarded for academic courses completed at other regionally accredited institutions with a grade of "C" or above when the coursework is comparable to that of Salve Regina University and does not duplicate another course for which credit has been granted. Your progress towards a degree can be gauged by how closely the course of study you have taken matches the degree requirements at Salve Regina. To formalize your enrollment, you must send a $500 commitment fee/housing deposit ($300 for commuters) and the reservation agreement enclosed in your acceptance packet. Detailed information regarding Orientation will be mailed to you after we receive your enrollment deposit. Transfer Orientation is held in late August (typically the week before classes begin) for students entering in the Fall Semester and mid-January (typically the day before classes begin) for students entering in the Spring Semester. Orientation is a one day program that is tailored to the specific needs of transfer students. At Orientation, you will have a one-on-one meeting with an academic advisor, and will finalize your course registration at that time. Attendance is required for all students enrolling at Salve Regina for the first time.
All entering freshman and transfer students who graduated high school in 2006 and beyond pay a one-time fee and receive a laptop computer loaded with all of the necessary software applications used by the University. This fee also includes full-service technical support from Salve's IT Department. Visit the IT Department for detailed information.
On-campus housing for transfer students is available based on space availability, class standing and date of deposit. We offer a variety of housing styles from traditional residence halls to town-house style living. The city of Newport offers off-campus housing options, many within walking distance of the Salve Regina campus. Students should speak with local independed rental agencies if this is the housing option they prefer.
The availability of on-campus housing for transfer students varies from year to year. We will work closely with residence life to accommodate your request for on-campus housing. If it is not possible to grant your request, we will assist you with finding a local realtor. The rental market for student housing in Newport is large, so most students do not have much trouble finding a residence off-campus.
Your eligibility for need-based financial aid is determined by the Federal Department of Education regulations and University policies governing financial aid programs. To apply for need-based financial aid, you must sibmit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) code #003411 and the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile code #3759. The priority deadline for filing financial aid forms for each academic year is March 1st.
These forms are available through the Office of Financial Aid.
Students should be aware that it is possible to meet the standards for transfer admission but not the requirements for a specific major. The Nursing and Education departments both have specific steps a student must take to gain entry to their programs and officially declare the major. We will do our best to counsel you as to whether your transfer plans are feasible. However, it is the student's responsibility to investigate the requirements for the majors they intend to declare.
The time period for Spring Admission is very compressed. Therefore, it is recommended that you submit all of your information as early as possible. Spring Admission is not recommended for students who have struggled academically in high school. Housing cannot always be guaranteed for students entering for the Spring semester.
*Applications received after these priority dates will be reviewed on a space available basis.
Student athletes should obtain a release form from their athletic director before contacting Salve Regina coaches.
If you have any questions, feel free to call the office of admissions at (888) GO-SALVE or email the transfer counselor.
