INTERNSHIPS Internships provide a link between theory teamed in the classroom and practice. Potential employers view internships almost as a prerequisite for hiring. As a student there are many benefits to having an internship. Students have the opportunity to test out a future career path while gaining valuable experience and possible income at the same time. Another great advantage of having an internship is to network with other professionals in the field of interest that may be able to assist you in the ftiture. One last benefit of an internship is the possibility of eaming credit for work external to the academic environment. The department of politics will assist students interested in pursuing internships with government and/or law-related institutions or related organizations such as political campaigns or interest groups. These experiences may be individualized, that is, the student and department faculty design an internship experience based on a placement identified by the student. Students may also take advantage of Pol 318 State Government Internships offered each spring semester. Since arrangements are made in the fall semester, consultation with the department chairperson at that time will assure the best options to meet the needs and interests of the student.
