SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY / MERCY NURSING PIN

A very special privilege is granted to the student who successfully completes the requirements for the B.S degree with a major in Nursing from Salve Regina University. Rich in the history and tradition of the religious congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, who founded Salve Regina, is the Mercy-Nursing Pin, which is formally presented to each new B.S graduate who has majored in Nursing.

Presentation of this pin to the Salve Regina University Nursing Major affords the recipient membership to the family and community of the Sisters of Mercy. The color pattern, and design of the Salve Regina University Mercy-Nursing pin are adapted from the distinctive insignia of the Sisters of Mercy known as the “Mercy Shield”. The Pin is an oval shape with four bars of gold, white and red, surmounted by a cross. All students graduating with a B.S in Nursing in any given year are offered the opportunity to purchase the Salve Regina Mercy-Nursing Pin, and after graduation are privileged to wear it with dignity and pride in its rich tradition and symbolism. When the Salve Regina University Nursing Pin is worn it gives testimony that the bearer of the Nursing Pin has earned the B.S. Degree with a major in Nursing, is educationally prepared to practice as a professional nurse, and is eligible to proceed to graduate study.
