STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS Students are encouraged to actively participate in Department of Nursing and Salve Regina University Organizations. Student Nurse Organization (SNO) One of the major criteria of a profession in society is the existence of an identified professional organization which promotes high standards of education and practice and serves as the official voice of a particular profession. Further, individual membership in one's official, professional organization is an essential to be a truly professional person. The American Nurses' Association is identified as the official professional organization for Nursing. Therefore, it is appropriate, that students preparing to enter the nursing profession be provided the opportunity for membership in the student organization as a prelude to professional membership. Participation in the SNO is an effective means for students to practice the commitment to life long responsibility of active participation in the professional organizations. Through membership and involvement in the SNO, the DON student learns to plan and benefit from events which not only stimulate professional growth, but also contribute positively to the University and civic communities. Student Representation Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes (including the RN-BS student group) elect two student representatives to attend Undergraduate Student Council, curriculum, and program evaluation committees within the DON.
