CULTURAL & HISTORIC PRESERVATION CLUB
The Cultural and Historical Preservation Club promotes awareness in archaeology, preservation, landscape history and museum studies by sponsoring field trips, guest speakers and other activities related to Cultural and Historic Preservation. In accordance with the Salve Regina Mission Statement, the CHP Club helps students prepare for challenges in life by immersing them in an environment that teaches them to think clearly and creatively. As an active participant in Salve Regina University's preservation community, the CHP Club encourages its members to experience real-world examples of architecture, archaeology and preservation in the New England area. Past activities have included a day trip to Boston, a tour of Mount Auburn Cemetery and a visit to Paul Revere's house. Upcoming events include a tour of the Gropius House in Lincoln, MA, and an exploration of Concord's historic resources, including the Old Manse, The Orchard and the Old North Bridge. The club is also planning a trip to New York City to see behind the scenes at Ellis Island and the United Nations. The CHP Club also offers activities that directly support the Cultural and Historic Preservation Program at Salve Regina University. Guest speakers have and will address topics in underwater archaeology, historic preservation in Newport and museum collections. Other activities include informational sessions on internships, summer jobs and graduate schools. The club also sponsors movies that have a preservation, archaeological or architectural theme as a way of promoting awareness about history and the environment. For a calendar of events and information, please contact Jillian Cunningham (jillian.cunningham@salve.edu).
