The comprehension of chemical principles is crucial to understanding natural phenomena at the fundamental molecular level. As the science of the elements, chemistry often drives advancements in other disciplines. Students who major in chemistry gain a scientific basis that prepares them for a wide range of career opportunities in academia, industry and research which often involve analysis, synthesis, and/or modeling. Training in chemistry could also lead to opportunities in interdisciplinary fields such as art conservation, biophysics, computational science, education, forensic science, medicine, patent law and technical writing.
