LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Robin L. Hoffmann, J.D., Chair

I believe that one of the nicest aspects of our department is the individualized level of attention we provide to our students. It's common for our students to stop by just to chat during our office hours.Departmental faculty members specialize in a variety of disciplines; all have practical experience and are superb educators. Our classes are small and our faculty encourage interaction and dialogue rather than just lecturing. We try to impart the necessary information while stimulating students to think critically - a marketable skill regardless of eventual profession.

ADJ offers a versatile degree that can lead to entry-level positions in juvenile justice, state and federal law enforcement and corrections. Many of our students go on to graduate school including law school. There is also an opportunity for highly motivated students to matriculate into our Five-Year Program, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree in five years.

Our varied internship placements have assisted students in determining their interests, networking and earning valuable reference letters from professionals. This past year, two of our graduates received offers to become Special Agents for the Department of Education's Fraud Unit after serving internships at that agency.Students may choose to become involved with the ADJ Club, a student run organization that features guest speakers from various disciplines. The department also recently founded a chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. This society recognizes excellence and provides Salve's criminal justice students with an accomplishment valued by prospective employers and universities across the country. There are numerous other possibilities for involvement within our department, whether mentoring adjudicated delinquent youth at the Rhode Island State Training School or authoring an original article for our annual publication, Certiorari. We think you will love the education you receive at Salve and the close personal relationships you will develop here.Sincerely,

Robin L. Hoffmann, J.D.
Chair
