LAW DAY Law Day U.S.A. was established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to strengthen our great heritage of liberty, justice and equality. In 1961, Congress designated May 1 as the official day for observance. On this day each year, Salve Regina University honors its administration of justice majors, alumni and distinguished public officials by inducting them into Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Past honorees include Rhode Island Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank Williams; Theresa Murray '83, special agent for the US Department of Education's Office of the Inspector General; and the late Joseph McGarry '97, a Myrtle Beach, S.C., police officer killed in the line of duty.
