Every graduate intending to participate in the Commencement exercises must be in an assigned seat in O'Hare 228-229 by 8:15 a.m. If you are not in place by 8:15 a.m., your diploma will be removed, and your name will not be called during the ceremony.
There can be no exceptions. Please allow yourself and your family plenty of time for traveling to the university, finding a parking place, preparing your attire for the procession and locating your seat in O'Hare. Directions for the academic procession will be given at this time. Before leaving home, be certain that you have with you your cap, gown, tassel, academic hood and, if applicable, your honor cord.
The academic procession into the tent will begin at 9:15 a.m. Guests should be seated by that time. The ceremony will end around noon.
Full academic regalia is required for Commencement. Candidates need to purchase a cap (with tassel), a gown and a hood at the university bookstore. The bookstore will forward the hood to O'Hare 228, the designated meeting place of graduate degree recipients, for Sunday morning.
Men should wear black shoes, black socks, dark trousers (preferably black), a white shirt, a dark tie, a cap, a gown and a hood.
Women should wear black shoes, neutral stockings, a dress, a cap, a gown and a hood.
At the Commencement ceremony, corsages or other ornamentation are not allowed on the outside of the gown.
Sodexo, the university's food service vendor, will be selling refreshments on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Miley cafeteria will be open from 1:30-3:30 pm offering an option of soup, salad and deli bar. In addition, the Jazzman's Café in the O'Hare Academic Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. serving assorted hot and cold specialty drinks, juice and pastries.
On Sunday, coffee, juice, soda, breakfast sandwiches and pastries will be sold at the Jazzman's Café beginning at 7 a.m. Flowers will also be on sale at a table near the Commencement tent.
Handicapped and non-handicapped restrooms will be available behind the O'Hare Academic Center, at the right rear of the tent, both on Saturday and Sunday.
Arrangements have been made with Commencement Photos, Inc. to take close-up pictures of each graduate as degrees are being conferred. Information on how to purchase pictures will be sent directly to your home by Commencement Photos, Inc.
