Coach Kerri Scroope

Kerri Scroope Kerri begins her third season as head women's soccer coach, head softball coach, assistant women's basketball coach, and assistant facilities coordinator at Salve Regina University. Last season, Scroope brought in her first recruiting class which consisted of 15 freshmen, and her roster featured 19 first or second year student-athletes. This season, Scroope returns two of her top scorers from 2008.

"We are a young squad with 15 sophomores, and the experience they gained last season will prove vital as we strive to achieve to our goal of winning a conference championship," said Scroope.

Off the field, the women's soccer team carries a 3.16 GPA and had several student-athletes named to The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) All-Academic Team.

This past summer, Scroope was selected to attend the NCAA Women Coaches Academy. She had the opportunity to interact with other women collegiate coaches and administrators at the Division I, II and III level while developing advanced perspective and skills in the fundamentals of coaching.

Prior to her arrival at Salve Regina, Scroope served as head coach for the girls soccer team at Apponequet High School (Lakeville, Mass.) for five seasons (2002-07). In 2003, she began coaching the girls varsity basketball team at Bourne High School, and in 2006, Scroope took over the softball coaching reins at Dartmouth High School after three years coaching JV at Apponequet.

A three-sport athlete at Mount Sinai high school in (N.Y.), Scroope earned four varsity letters in both softball and soccer and three in basketball. She earned all-league, all-conference, all-state, and most valuable player honors. Upon graduation, she began developing her coaching skills as a volunteer for a summer basketball league and has also volunteered at the Bay State Games.

Scroope is a 2000 graduate of Stony Brook University with a bachelor's degree in social sciences. As a student-athlete, Scroope earned two varsity letters in both soccer and basketball.  She also taught basic skills and fundamentals at basketball and soccer camps.

Scroope is currently working towards earning her master-s degree in both elementary education and educational leadership at Bridgewater State College.

Assistant Coach

Margaret Gonsalves begins her first season as women's soccer assistant coach in 2009.

A 2009 graduate of UMass Lowell, Gonsalves began her playing career at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) and appeared in 19 games for the Blue Devils. Gonsalves played in seven games as a freshman in 2004 and, after missing all of 2005, returned to play in 12 games in 2006 (six starts). Following the season, she transferred to UML, where she appeared in 31 games for the River Hawks over her final two seasons. Gonsalves tallied eight points (2-4-8) in her first season at UML and recorded two goals and two assists (six points) as a senior in 2008. Following her senior campaign, she was selected to participate in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior All-Star Bowl.

"Margaret brings Division I and II experience and a great deal of game knowledge to our program," said Scroope, who begins her third season as women's soccer coach in 2009. "I am very excited to have her on board as we strive to become one of the top teams in the conference. She will be working with the defense and helping with the development of our new system of play."

Gonsalves was a four-year letterwinner on the Dartmouth H.S. women's soccer team and twice led them in goals (2003-04). She has also played soccer for the MAPLE Soccer Club (1999-2002), the Cape Cod Lady Crusaders of the Super-Y League (2003-04), and the Massachusetts Stingers of Women's Premier Soccer (2006).

As an undergraduate, Gonsalves was employed by SoHo Experimentals (2008-09), where she helped the company market their products. She has also worked as a member of the administrative support team for the United States Navy, Navy Warfare Development Command (NWDC) (2007-08).

Gonsalves holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Marketing from UMass Lowell. She resides in Dartmouth, Mass.
