LEADERSHIP PROGRAM Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
Director: Del Malloy, Director of Athletics Eligibility: The student-athlete advisory committee is open to any member of a Salve Regina University intercollegiate team, with preference given to an upperclassman. Duration: The program begins during the fall and runs through the entire academic year. Application process: Each team decides how their student-athlete advisory committee representative is to be selected. Some hold team elections and, in some cases, the representative is appointed by the head coach. Each team will also have an alternate who will be the representative in the absence of the initial selectee.
Next Meetings:
The purposes of the SAAC members are :
1. To generate a student-athlete voice within
the athletic department and university.
2. To solicit student-athlete response to proposed
NCAA legislation or to suggest potential NCAA legislation.
3. To be a vehicle for student-athlete community outreach programs.
4. To develop relationships and support systems between
athletes from different teams.
The membership of the SAAC:
A. Composition: The membership of the SAAC will consist
of two members from intercollegiate team. Freshmen are
also encouraged to participate. These representatives
will be coach appointed or team elected. Also, any member
of an intercollegiate team who is interested in SAAC,
and was not one of the two representatives from their team,
is invited to participate.
B. Duties and Responsibilities: Members will serve as a liaison
between the committee and his/her individual team.
Also to express concerns and ideas to the committee
1. The committee as a whole will me on the bi-weekly Friday
of every month that the University is in session, meetings
will generally last no longer than one hour. The co-chairs
will call the meeting.
2. If any representative is absent for two consecutive
SAAC meetings, he/she may be dismissed from the committee, within reason.
The Officers of the SAAC Committee:
1. The Executive Committee
a. Composition: The executive board will consist of six members.
Two Chairpersons, ideally, one female and one male athlete from
different sports and five chairs of the standing sub-committees.
b. Duties and Responsibilities: The Executive Board oversees the
operation of the SAAC committee. The board shall meet weekly or
as needed and shall be responsible for discussing new ideas for
standing committees to work on.
2. Standing Sub-Committees
Each committee shall consist of at least a committee member who
will elect a chair to the Executive Board. Members pick the committee
they want to work on. These committees can change year to year
depending on your current issues. The Standing Sub-Committees are:
