CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Salve Regina University sailing team came into this weekend with tremendous confidence after having been ranked among the Top 20 sailing programs in the nation by Sailing World.
Senior Torey Pellegrini [Kingston, Mass.] with sophomore Karafaye Buffa [Huntington Beach, Calif.] finished up with a first and a ninth while senior Patrick Clancy [Scituate, Mass.] with junior Lauren Grygiel [Westport, Mass.] posted a second and a fourth, which was good enough to slide the team past the nation's top-ranked sailors from Yale University, as well as the home team Tufts University, for a second place finish overall.
In some very close racing with the nation's best sailors, this is Salve Regina's best finish at a New England intersectional regatta in school history and should help the Seahawks to maintain their impressive national ranking.
"All four sailors performed well, and excelled under the incredible pressure," said head coach John Ingalls. "The team will be taking Monday off, but during the rest of the week will be preparing for the Danmark Intersectional Regatta, hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy."
