CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Molly Golden (Milton, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 5:29 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Salve Regina women's ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over Cortland Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Sophomore Ashley Meyers (New York/Sound Shore Warriors) and freshman Taylor Puckhaber (Lake Placed/NSA) each scored a goal for Cortland. Senior Nicole Ruddy (Utica/Mohawk Valley Herricanes) collected two assists, and freshmen Cara Latchum (Warrington, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and Chelsey Wright (Medford/Suffolk PAL) chipped in with one assist apiece. Sophomore goalie Katie Double (Farmington/Victor H.S.) made 20 saves.

Sophomore Kathleen Roche (Boston, Mass.) scored twice for the Seahawks, while five different players collected one assist each. Freshman goalie Alexandra Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) turned aside 20 shots to earn the win in her first career start.

Roche gave Salve Regina the lead 4:52 into the first period on a wrist shot from the left face-off circle. Puckhaber tied the score with her first career goal when she knocked a rebound past Muehlbronner at 12:30 of the second period while the Red Dragons had a two-player advantage on the power play.

The teams traded goals to close out the second period. Roche netted her second of the night as she scored on a rebound through traffic at 17:15 after junior Sarah Small's (Medfield, Mass.) shot from the left point was knocked down in front. Meyer then tied the score on a wrap around goal at 19:02 to send the game to the third period tied at 2-2.

The Seahawks netted the winning goal at 14:31 on a rebound after Double denied a shot from the right side. Shortly after, Salve Regina killed off a power play to hold its 3-2 lead. With time winding down, Cortland pulled Double but was unable to get a quality scoring chance.
