Weston, Mass. - In an aggressive The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup, Salve Regina (4-2, 2-0 TCCC) led Regis College 1-0 going into half, finishing the match by defeating Regis 3-0.
The Seahawks Billy Carroll (Babylon, N.Y.) opened the game with a score with 10 minutes remaining. He was assisted by freshman Bobby Ernst (Needham, Mass.). Ernst was passed the ball from Carroll, as Carroll darted behind his defender, Ernst positioned the ball between two Regis defenders for Carroll to slide the ball into the net with his left foot.
As a team Salve Regina had 17 shots on the day. The Pride would also post 17 shots, but none of RegisÂ’ were on goal. The three shots Salve Regina would take on goal were all scores. Pride keeper Andrew LaMacchia (Lynn, Mass.) tallied a total of nine saves, eight in the first period.
Tony Lania (Concord, Mass.) scored the Seahawks second goal coming in the 73rd minute. Without question the game was tough played, neither giving the other much room to move.
Lania score would come in similar fashion to the first, but Christopher Knoth (East Islip, N.Y.) would pass the ball into Lania for score to the left of the net. Defensively for Regis College, Wade Thongsythavong (Lynn, Mass.) made it tough for Seahawk defenders to pass through the middle of the pitch.
Not until the 89th minute would Salve Regina see the net again, more than 16 minutes from its last score, when James Tollefson (Middletown, R.I.) made his way past Regis defender Juan De Leon (Lynn, Mass.) to post the teams final goal.
In an intensely played match, three Salve Regina players would be issued yellow cards, as well as one Regis College player.
