Four Seahawks compete at New England Women's Invitational Tennis Tournament

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.. - Salve Regina University women's tennis participated in the New England Women's Invitational Tennis Tournament with consolation draw matches on Saturday at Smith College indoor courts.

The Seahawk "A" draw pair matched up with Curry College in an 8:30 a.m. start at Ainsworth Gymnasium. Junior Erin Phillips [Morristown, N.J.] and senior captain Jessica Timpano [Narragansett, R.I.] won their doubles match, 8-0, before Phillips earned an 8-1 singles win over Lauren Maloney, and Timpano won 8-2 over Alison Weisenbach for a Salve Regina sweep.

The Seahawk "B" draw pair of junior Valerie Leso [West Warwick, R.I.] and freshman Leeanne Soprano [Cranston, R.I.] took on a hybrid pair from Curry College and Wellesley College. Salve Regina won two of the three matches by first grabbing the doubles, 8-4, and then finishing with a Soprano 8-1 victory over Colonel sophomore Francesca Panebianca. Mariya Chokova won an 8-1 decision over Leso in the middle match.

Salve Regina (6-7) resumes its 2009-2010 season in March during a spring break trip to Orlando, Fla.
