Burns to play in NEILA East/West All-Star Game

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Salve Regina University senior Nate Burns (Sandwich, Mass.) has been selected to participate in the 2010 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Turfer East/West All-Star Game. The game will be played on Sunday, June 6 at 4 p.m. at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.

Burns led the Seahawks with 82 ground balls (55 in conference play) and proved to be as solid a presence on defense for head coach Patrick Cooney as he was as a member of the men's ice hockey team this past winter. He collected a season-high 10 ground balls at Roger Williams on April 7, and picked up his only point of the season - an assist - in a win over Anna Maria on April 10. He was a First Team All-The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) selection on defense as well an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) Third Team All-Star.

Burns was one of five players from TCCC selected to play in the game. He will be teammates with Brad Lipkivich and Eric Hagarty (Endicott), Matt Vozzolo (New England College), and Rian Kearney (Roger Williams).

The Seahawks finished the season 9-8 and qualified for the conference playoffs as the No. 5 seed, where they suffered a 12-11 loss to No. 4 Roger Williams in the quarterfinals.
