NEWPORT, R.I. - A total of 33 Salve Regina University student-athletes were honored on the 2009-10 The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Academic All-Conference Team, which was announced earlier today.
The Seahawk women's soccer team led the pack with five student-athletes, followed by women's basketball and field hockey with four each, and softball, women's tennis, women's track & field, and volleyball with three aside. Junior Kendra Andrie (Muskegon, Mich.) and sophomore Kelsey Jacobsen (Albany, N.Y.) were each represented on both the women's soccer and track & field teams.
"This is a true testament to the effort and commitment to academic excellence put forth by the student-athletes, coaches and administrators here at Salve Regina," said Director of Athletics Colin Sullivan. "I am especially proud of the fact that our student-athletes not only excel on the field of play, but in the classroom as well."
The Academic All-Conference Team consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status and has maintained an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00. Only members of sports teams in which the conference sponsors a championship are eligible for this team.
