Salve Regina suspends men's soccer program for five games

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University Athletic Director Del Malloy announced today the school's men's soccer program has been suspended for five dates of competition as a result of a violation of department policies. The suspension has been in effect since Thursday, September 27, when the Seahawks were scheduled to play at Western New England College.

"After a thorough investigation into the incident, we have levied the penalties and provided education to the student-athletes," Malloy said. "We will not discuss the incident or talk about any individuals, but we feel confident this group has a better understanding of our department policies and goals."

Of the five forfeited contests, four impact The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) standings; each respective league opponent will be rewarded a victory while Salve Regina receives four losses for conference standings only. Salve Regina men's soccer (5-3-1; 3-4-1 TCCC) will resume competition on Saturday, October 13, at New England College (2:30 p.m.).

"Each of the opposing institutions has been notified and has supported us in our decision," Malloy added.

All further inquiries into this athletic department matter should be directed to Del Malloy (malloyd@salve.edu) at 401-341-2268.
