Applying to Salve Regina as an International Student

Each year, we are proud to welcome to the Salve Regina campus new students from around the world. International students include freshmen, transfer, second degree and exchange students. We also work with international students attending secondary school in the United States and U.S. citizens who are attending a secondary school in another country.

At Salve Regina, international students bring a unique and valuable perspective to our campus which is valued by students, faculty and staff. Staff members at Salve Regina realize that applying to college from a distance is often a difficult task. We stand ready to assist you in that process, from providing information to students who cannot visit our campus to helping students complete the requirements for admission to providing immigration information. Whatever your circumstances are, we will do our best to make your transition as smooth as possible, and we will always treat you as an individual.

Requirements for Admission as an International Student

Applicants must follow the instructions for freshmen or transfer admission. In addition, the following additional requirements may apply:

  • All transcripts must be in English or be accompanied by an official translation either by a school or university official or by an approved outside translation agency.
  • If English is not your first language, you must submit TOEFL or IELTS results. For these students, the TOEFL may be used in lieu of the SAT or ACT requirement.
  • Non-U.S. citizens must provide financial verification in order to apply for an F-1 student visa. U.S. immigration policy requires that all foreign students submit proof of financial support for their studies. The financial guarantee may take the form of a bank statement or letter from a sponsoring agency. We prefer the financial statement to be in terms of U.S. dollars. If the statement is in another currency, the statement will be evaluated in light of published currency exchange rates. If your country imposes currency restrictions, please let us know.

After your application and all supporting documents are received, we will usually respond to you within four to six weeks. We encourage you to apply on a timely basis so that if accepted you will have time to apply for your student visa once you receive your I-20 form.

Enrollment, Orientation and Class Registration

To formalize your enrollment, accepted applicants must send a $500 commitment fee/housing deposit ($300 for commuters) and the reservation agreement enclosed in your acceptance packet. Detailed information regarding the International Student Orientation will be mailed to you after we receive your enrollment deposit.
