Interactive Communication Technology

The interactive communication technology program at Salve Regina explores and investigates human experience with technology by blending creative problem-solving with coursework in visual, written and auditory communication. Our interdisciplinary program draws from several departments, primarily art and English, using computer technology as the common link.

Courses examine the communication process and its elements, a combination that lays a foundation for diverse experiences in thinking critically, speaking effectively and communicating visually. The program places an emphasis on developing conceptual, aesthetic and technical skills in the production of computer-generated media.

Beyond the classroom, majors earn hands-on experience by completing internships with graphic and Web design companies both locally and nationally. The program’s service learning component connects students with nonprofit organizations, fostering reflection and understanding through volunteer service.

Grounded within a strong liberal arts tradition, our program fosters creative and practical skills that prepare our majors for graduate work as well as careers as art and design professionals in classrooms, design studios, galleries and museums.

Senior Thesis Seminar
Interactive Communication Technology Program
In this capstone course for interactive communication technology majors, students meet in seminar-style groups for critique and discussion. Students concentrate on work that expresses a sound technical background, an understanding of contemporary art concerns and the awakening of a personal style. Professional concerns of visual artists, ranging from taxes and the law to portfolio presentations to selecting graduate schools, are discussed. The senior thesis exhibit and portfolio production culminates the experience.
