The Monday after Sarah McDonough ’12 graduated from high
school, she was knee-deep in her college major. McDonough has been
participating in the Cultural and Historic Preservation program’s summer field
school, an archeological dig exploring Newport’s historic landmarks, for the
last two years.
“It’s really nice to have a different perspective on it,
because usually people only think of Newport in terms of the Gilded Age, but
prior to the American Revolution, it was one of the busiest ports in the
country,” she says. “It was a really interesting society that people don’t
think of too much.”
